Conscious Compassionate Communication Training

Saturday January 7, 12:00pm - 5:00pm

Join Mary Kary and Doug Reinemann for this day-long intensive training on conscious compassionate communication based upon Marshall Rosenberg’s book called Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life. Conscious communication is the intention to connect with ourselves and others by focusing on the needs underneath our strategies for meeting them. By practicing a simple, generic, complete and doable skill set outlined by Dr. Rosenberg, we can learn to translate and transform every word we hear into a life-giving opportunity to connect with what we most want. We’ll have an opportunity to practice during this workshop – so bring an ‘insult’ or ‘trigger’ statement (something that is not pleasant to hear or ‘pushes your buttons,’) to work on. This is a rich and nuanced practice and is an integral part of Buddhist ethics as an aspect of the noble eightfold path (right speech).

Please RSVP by calling Joyful path at 608-437-0520 or emailing info@joyfulpathhealing.com. Bring a bag lunch or you can purchase a meal at the Naked Elm Bakery just across the street.

This workshop will be followed by twice a month practice sessions facilitated by Mary Kay on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month beginning February 14, 2012. There will not be a charge for any of these events, but donations are greatly appreciated to cover the costs of Mary Kay's travel and to support continued affordable programming at Joyful Path.

Message from Ngawang Thekchen: "For a year or so I have wanted to receive training in Non-Violent Communication. After reading the introductory book, Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life, it seemed apparent that no matter what heart-felt values we hold and how much we want to communicate compassionately, we have been 'trained' by our society in ineffective (and even inflammatory) methods of communications which are habitual and virtually unconscious, Learning a new way is a matter of gaining both understanding and practice with new skills. The cost of going to Albuquerque and taking training with Marshall was difficult, and so it is with great enthusiasm I learned about a wonderful woman here in the Madison area who has studied and practiced these skills for many years now. Mary Kay Reinemann, and her husband, Doug, lead an ongoing group in Conscious Communication at Friends Meeting House that has been ongoing for 5 years, and they are willing to come to Joyful Path."
